Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethno botanical Garden

Located in Captain Cook, this garden layout illustrates the four vegetation zones utilized by Hawaiians in the Kona region: coastal, lowland dry forest, food and fiber crops, and upland forest. Feature collections include banana, Hawaiian economic plants, native Hawaiian plants, sugarcane, and taro.

The garden is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday for self-guided tours. There is no charge for self-guided tours. Guided tours are available on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:00 p.m.; there is a $5.00 charge for these tours. Guided tours are also available at 10:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of the month and a donation is requested for these tours.

Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden

Located in a valley on Onomea Bay, the natural setting of this garden enhances its collections of tropical plants from around the world. The special collections include aroids, gingers and heliconias, marantas, orchids, and palms. In addition to the plant and bird collections, the garden trails provide access to waterfalls, streams and scenic coastline.

The garden is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Last admission to the Garden is at 4:00 p.m. The admission fee is $15.00 for adults; children aged 6 to16 are $5.00; children 5 and under are free. Tours are self-guided and maps are provided.

Honolulu Botanical Garden

There are five distinct gardens forming this unique garden system. The gardens are located in different ecological settings around the island of Oahu. They offer visitors year-round opportunities to explore unique and diverse plant collections. Admission is free, except at Foster Botanical Garden.

Visiting hours: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Closed: Christmas Day (December 25) and New Years Day (January 1)

Na Aina Kai Botanical Garden

This paradise on the North shore of Kauai features formal and wild gardens, and a sculpture collection. Spanning 240 acres, Na Aina Kai is a living mosaic of 13 diverse and bounteous gardens, a hardwood plantation, a moss-and-fern-draped canyon, and a pristine sandy beach stretching between a meadow and the aquamarine waters of the Pacific.
