The Giant and the Dwarf, Bull Head Court

Over the entrance of Bull Head Court, Newgate Street, is a small stone, sculpted with the figures of William Evans, the gigantic porter belonging to Charles I, and his diminutive fellow servant, Jeffrey Hudson, dwarf to the same monarch. Hudson was only eighteen inches high at the start of his service with the King (he later grew to just over three feet), and at court celebrations the giant Evans used to create a sensation when he drew Hudson out of his pocket. Hudson went on to become a captain in the royal navy, and was successful in several duels.
