Part of the West Side of Regent Street

Regent Street was built between Marylebone Park (now Regent's Park) to Carlton House between c. 1813 to 1818. The new thoroughfare was meant to improve traffic in the area, as well revive the run down areas around Pall Mall. There was great inconvenience in the construction (many buildings had to be torn down) but once the street was completed it became one of the 'places to be seen' in late Regency and Victorian London. The central, curved portion between Piccadilly and Oxford Street was known as The Quadrant.
